Founded as a spin-off of Brasil Plural Gestão de Recursos, Occam Brasil Gestão de Recursos (Occam) is a hedge fund management firm based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Its CEO, Carlos Eduardo Rocha, has experience in the Brazilian financial markets, working in different segments of former investment bank Banco Pactual. The firm seeks to operate in every segment of the market, aiming to obtain risk-adjusted returns. It utilizes both macroeconomic and fundamental analysis in its investment process as well as rigid risk modeling. Unlike most investment management firms in Brazil, Occam is highly focused on the equity market (both in Brazil and internationally) averaging a portfolio allocation of 2/3 invested in the equity market for its main funds. The name Occam originates from the philosopher William de Ockham, who established that individuals should always focus on the essential aspects when presented with a problem, excluding irrelevant issues.
