Cogent Energy Investment Management

Cogent Energy Investment Management (Cogent) was a hedge fund management firm based in Connecticut. It was founded in 2012 by Fletcher Sturm, Robert Benson, and Frank Ermis. Cogent focused on making fundamentally driven investments in the US natural gas and electricity markets. The firm's fundamentally based macro investment strategy combined proprietary methods of identifying strategies, building positions, managing risk, and extracting profits from the energy commodity market. Cogent’s energy commodity strategy involved holding large-scale, long-term, core investment positions across longer holding periods to take advantage of more substantial macroeconomic shifts in the US energy commodity marketplace. The firm closed down operations and liquidated its funds in December 2019.
