A round-up of last week’s people moves at firms providing services to the alternative assets industry

Legal
  • Dr. Abdullah Alsulaimi has joined Dentons as a Partner in the Regulatory and Litigation practice, based in Riyadh. He was previously the Deputy Minister for Laws and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Justice in Saudi Arabia.

  • DLA Piper has appointed Nic Henrikson as Co-Managing Partner of its Muscat, Oman office. He has experience in commercial and construction disputes before major arbitral institutions in the Middle East, and joins from Addleshaw Goddard, where he was a Partner.

    In Tokyo, Lawrence Carter has rejoined as Co-Head of the Japan Employment practice and Ed Sheremeta, who has relocated from Hong Kong, has been promoted to Co-Head of Real Estate for Japan.

    Cristina Gabardi has joined as a Partner in Milan, focusing on domestic and international clients across insurance M&A, particularly in Warranties and Indemnities. She joins, along with Beatrice Rebecca Gavino and Carolina Giulia Scolari, from Osborne Clarke.

    DLA Piper Canada has appointed Nafeesa Valli-Hasham as a Partner in the Capital Markets practice, specializing in IPOs, M&A, and strategic financing structures.

    In Madrid, Yoko Takagi has been hired as an M&A and Capital Markets Partner. She advises clients on cross-border transactions, capital markets, and corporate finance, and was previously a Partner at White & Case.

  • Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has appointed Ryan Kim as a Partner in New York, where he will lead the firm’s private credit initiatives. He has experience across the private credit spectrum, including in leveraged acquisition and recapitalization transactions, syndicated loan financing, and asset-based lending. He joins from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, where he was a Partner.

  • Igor Kukhta has been appointed as a Finance Partner at Orrick, based in Paris. He represents private credit lenders, special situations funds, corporations, private equity funds, and banks in leveraged acquisition financings. He joins from Willkie Farr & Gallagher, where he was a Partner.

  • Sidley Austin has elected Brian Fahrney as Chair of the Executive Committee, succeeding Michael Schmidtberger, who has been a member of the committee since 2002 and its Chair since January 2018. Schmidtberger will remain a Partner of the Investment Funds Practice, while Fahrney will remain the Global Co-Leader of the M&A and Private Equity practice.

  • Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom has hired Dr. Matthias Schudlo as a Partner in the Financial Sponsor practice in Frankfurt. He focuses on private equity transactions, as well as cross-border and domestic M&A.

  • Weil, Gotshal & Manges has hired Jasmine Rosner as a Partner in the Antitrust practice group, based in Washington DC. She joins the firm from Amazon, where she was a Senior Corporate Counsel, leading the global M&A regulatory strategy. Prior to that, she was an antitrust attorney at the US Federal Trade Commission.


Administrator
  • Jersey-based Ocorian has appointed Michael Gull as Head of US Funds Sales. Most recently he worked for Carta in New York where he was Director, Sales Management and Business Development, and before that he was a Managing Director at SS&C Technologies.

  • IQ-EQ has hired Peter van Opstal as Commercial Director for the Netherlands. He will lead the Dutch sales and relationship management team and drive the commercial strategy across segments. He joins from Vista, where he was a Commercial Director and member of the management team.


M&A and corporate finance
  • UK-headquartered Barclays has hired Abhishek Singhal as a Managing Director in Technology Investment Banking. He will be based in New York and focus on the payments sector. He joins from Citigroup where he was a Managing Director in the FinTech Investment Banking division. Prior to joining Citigroup in 2018, he worked at Deutsche Bank on the TMT Investment Banking team.

  • Brown Gibbons Lang, which is focused on the global middle market, has appointed Bill Watts as Managing Director and Jamie Arnold as Director in the Healthcare & Life Sciences investment banking vertical. Watts formerly led HCIT coverage at Fifth Third Securities and H2C Securities after advising public and private clients in Citigroup's Healthcare M&A division in New York. Arnold was previously a Vice President within the Healthcare Technology investment banking practice at Fifth Third Bank.

  • DC Advisory has hired Andrew Murray-Lyon as Healthcare Managing Director in the London office. He previously co-founded the European Healthcare team at Houlihan Lokey, and has also worked at Lazard and Deutsche Bank.

  • Wealth management and professional services group Evelyn Partners has appointed Fenton Burgin as Partner, Head of Debt & Capital Advisory with a remit to lead the continued growth of its debt and capital advisory practice. He joins from Deloitte, where he was a Partner responsible for the expansion of a successful debt and capital advisory team, and has also served in prior senior advisory roles at Close Brothers and Schroders.


Platform
  • Investor management and fundraising software provider Bite Investments has appointed Florus Plantenga as Head of Client Advisory. He was previously Managing Director and Head of European Financial Sponsor Coverage at Lincoln International, and previously held roles at Houlihan Lokey, Société Generale, and JP Morgan.

  • Private funds clearinghouse IDR has appointed Jason Meklinsky as Chief Revenue Officer, a newly created role. He will lead the commercial strategy, focusing on business development and marketing initiatives.

  • Gaurav Katyal has joined private markets technology platform S64 as Chief Operating Officer for Asia Pacific (APAC). Last week, S64 appointed Shawn Ko as Head of South Korea, strengthening the firm’s presence in the APAC region. Katyal will be based in Singapore, and previously spent over 22 years at at Deutsche Bank, latterly as Head of Frontier Markets.


Association
  • The Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI) has appointed Corinne Lamesch as Deputy CEO and General Counsel. She previously spent over 16 years at Fidelity International in various roles, including Chief Conducting Officer of its Luxembourg-based management company and Luxembourg Country Head.

Alison Lambert has been appointed as Chair of the Commercial Real Estate Finance Council (CREFC). She has been involved with the association since 2016, and a member of the Board of Advisors in recent years, and will serve as Chair for two years. Lambert will remain as Chief Financial Officer of real estate firm Martley Capital.
