October 23, 2023 (Preqin News) – A round-up of last week’s people moves at LPs and GPs:

LPs

  • The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the UK’s Pension Protection Fund (PPF), Oliver Morley, is to leave the fund in December. Morley, who has been with the PPF since 2018, will take up a new role as CEO of The Money and Pensions Service, an executive, non-departmental body that provides free and impartial advice and guidance to members of the public. The PPF’s chair, Kate Jones, said the fund will appoint an interim CEO while it searches for a replacement for Morley.

  • UBS Private Wealth Management has announced the arrival of Patrick K. McBrien as a Managing Director and Private Wealth Advisor in New York City. His previous roles include working at Lehman Bros, where he was a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager, and at Stifel, which he joined in 2015 as part of acquiring Barclays Wealth and Investment Management in the Americas. McBrien is joined at UBS by Senior Wealth Strategy Associate, William Hand, and Senior Client Associate, Avery Melville.

GPs

  • CEA Group has announced that David Panton is to join its Advisory Board as Senior Advisor, Private Equity. Panton, Chairman of private family office, Panton Equity Partners, is also a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of private equity firm Navigation Capital Partners. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Finance at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School and has more than 25 years of experience as a private equity investor, investment banker, and entrepreneur.

  • Los Angeles-based private equity firm, Butterfly Equity, has promoted Peter Tang to Chief Financial Officer. He joined Butterfly in 2016, having previously worked at KKR as an Investor on its Consumer Retail Private Equity team. In addition to the CFO role, Tang will continue in his current role as Managing Director.

  • Credit-focused investment manager, Octagon Credit Investors, has announced that Senior Portfolio Manager, Gretchen Lam, is to take over as CEO, replacing Co-Founder Andrew Gordon from January 1, 2024. She joined the firm in 1999 and has held several senior roles at Octagon, serving as a member of its Investment Committee since 2013. Gordon, who co-founded the firm in 1994, will assume the role of Executive Chair of the Board of Managers upon standing down as CEO.

  • Private equity real estate investment manager, Stockbridge, has appointed Jon Thompson as Managing Director, responsible for leading capital raising, marketing, and product development for the firm’s Core and Value Advisors business. Thompson most recently served as Director at DWS Group, and has also held roles at RREEF, Apollo, and Black Creek Group.

  • Private equity fund of funds manager, HarbourVest Partners, has hired Charlie Teeple as a Managing Director of Credit Operations. Teeple joins from Liberty Mutual Investments, where he was a Senior Director and Head of Investment Operations. He was previously at Bank of New York Mellon for more than 20 years, most recently as Managing Director of Global Institutional Operations. In his new role at HarbourVest, he will be responsible for all aspects of credit-specific operational functions.

  • Ohio-based private equity real estate investment firm, CREC Real Estate, has recruited Carson Hammer as Vice President of Acquisitions. He will be responsible for managing the firm’s acquisitions of multifamily properties in the Southeastern United States. Hammer joins from real estate investment firm Sundance Bay, where he was Vice President of Investments. He previously held acquisition roles at Rincon Partners and Passco Companies.

  • Defense and government-focused private equity firm, Bluestone Investment Partners, has announced the appointment of Kevin M. Phillips as an Executive Partner. Phillips is currently Chairman of the Board for ManTech, a high-tech, high-end engineering and cyber company, where he was also President and CEO from 2018 until his retirement in October 2022.

  • Climate-focused global investment firm, Galvanize Climate Solutions, has appointed Kate Bassett as Vice President, responsible for leading the firm’s marketing and communications. Bassett was most recently a Vice President at venture capital firm Fifth Wall, where she developed the firm’s marketing, communications, and content strategies. She was previously a member of the corporate communications team at sports and entertainment company, Endeavor.
