LPs
Scott Chan has been promoted at California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS) to Chief Investment Officer (CIO). He has served as Deputy CIO since 2018 and will replace Christopher J. Ailman, who is retiring. Before joining CalSTRS, he was Senior Managing Director of the University of California, Office of the CIO of the Regents.
Insurance company Empower has hired KC Waldron as Chief Compliance Officer (CCO). She was previously Managing Director, Head of Wealth & Advice Solutions Compliance, and CCO at Charles Scwab.
UK-based Lloyds Bank has appointed Tangwena Nelson as Head of Asset & Wealth Managers. He joins from Investec, where he was Head of Financial Institutions Coverage.
Insurance company Phoenix Group has hired Stephanie Bruce as interim CFO, following the planned retirement of Rakesh Thakar. She was previously CFO of abdrn for four years, and before that, served as Head of Financial Services Assurance at PwC. The firm also announced that Cecile Retaureau will join in August as Head of Private Markets from UBS, where she was Managing Director, Global Head of Cross-asset Financing and Fixed Income Solutions Sales.
Andrew Yorks has agreed to join New Jersey-based Prudential Financial as Head of Global Investment Strategy, responsible for developing investment plans and ALM strategies. He was previously CIO at Resolution Life US, and before this, was SVP, Head of Alternatives and Private Debt Strategies at Lincoln Financial Group.
Chicago-based William Blair has expanded its Private Wealth Management presence in Philadelphia with the acquisition of Fernberger Wealth Management from Raymond James. The team will be lead by Managing Director, Wealth Advisor, James Fernberger, who prior to joining Raymond James, was SVP and Senior Financial Advisor at Advest for 26 years. His sons, Alex and Zach Fernberger, will also be joining as Managing Directors, Wealth Advisors. Alex Fernberger was an AVP with Merrill Lynch and Zach was an Associate Director at WisdomTree Asset Management, before joining Raymond James.
GPs
Anjali Agarwal has joined private equity firm Allied Industrial Partners as CCO/CFO, based in Houston. She was recently CFO at Salient Partners, where she served for 15 years. Allied has also hired Steven Hirsch as Director, Zaid Elouad as Senior Associate, and has promoted Lee Roberts to Senior Associate. Hirsch joins from private equity firm Sterling Group, where he was a Director. Before this, he was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company. Elouad was previously a Director at consultancy firm Beckway. Roberts joined Allied from Credit Suisse, where she was an Investment Banking Associate in the Energy and Transition Group.
London-based AXA Venture Partners has hired Warda Shaheen as General Partner, Late-Stage Fund, and Pedro Barros as Partner (Fundraising and Investor Relations). Based in Paris, Shaheen was previously a Director at OMERS Growth Equity, leading global software investments. In London, Pedro Barros joins from Target Group, where he was a Partner responsible for fundraising, investor relations, and liquidity solutions.
Boston-based BayPine has appointed Migo Terjanian as a Partner and Head of Investor Relations. He was most recently a Managing Director, Investor Relations, at BC Partners. Before this, he was Head of Investor Relations at Littlejohn & Co.
Listed manager BlackRock has announced they have hired Violet Osterberg to lead the firm’s Investment Grade Private Placements (IGPP) platform in the Private Debt Group. She was previously a Managing Director, Esoteric/Structured Private Assets at Pacific Life, where she served for over 22 years.
Blue Owl Capital has hired Haitham Abdulkarim as Managing Director, Middle East, in Dubai. He was previously Head of UAE, and Director, Middle East Institutional Sales, at Blackrock, leading client strategy and engagement. Before that, he was Head of Investor Relations & External Communications at Waha Capital.
New York-based Branford Castle Partners has announced that Eric R. Korsten has rejoined the firm as a Senior Manager and Investment Committee Member. He joins from Argand Partners, where he was an Investment Team Managing Director. Before this, he was a Partner at private equity firm Soundcore Capital Partners, joining from Branford.
Private debt firm Brinley Partners has appointed Rex Chung as a Partner, responsible for investor relations and capital formation activities. Most recently, he was Head of Capital Formation at Hunter Point Capital. Before that, he led the Client & Partner Group, and Capital Markets team in Asia for KKR.
Kerem Bolukbasi, Varun Tejpal, and Carter Venkat, have launched private equity firm, Initium Management, a growth venture for family and founder-owned businesses. Bolukbasi was most recently CFO at Rather Outdoors, and previously EVP and CFO at Exactech. Before that, he was Private Equity Operations Executive at TPG Capital. Tejpal was previously Managing Director at BlackLine and founded FourQ Systems. Before that, he was CFO, Global Operations at industrial machinery manufacturing giant GE. Venkat joins from TriStruX, where he was President, CFO, and Board Member. Before, he was Head of Research and Founding Partner at INOX Global Capital Management.
New York-based Lazard Asset Management has hired Sarbjit Nahal as Portfolio Manager/Analyst. He joins from Signal Capital Partners, where he was a Partner and Head of Thematic Investing. Before that, he was at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, serving as Managing Director and Global Head of Thematic Investing Strategy.
Mike Baker has joined Pacific Oak Capital Markets as Senior Regional VP, responsible for building and maintaining relationships with financial intermediaries in the US Midwest. He joins from LPL Financial, where he served as a Financial Advisor.
Real estate firm PPR Capital Management has promoted Bill O’Brien to Chief Client Officer. O’Brien first joined the firm in April 2022 as Director of Investor Relations. Before that, he was a member of the Private Wealth Management team at SEI.
Paris-based Tikehau Capital has appointed Dr. Steffen Meinshausen as Head of Real Estate Germany. He was previously Director at Madison International Realty, and before that, Director at 777 Capital Partners.
