A round-up of last week’s people moves at pension schemes, asset managers and more.

LPs

  • The Board of Chinese sovereign wealth fund China Investment Corporation has appointed Liu Haoling as Vice-Chairman, President, and Chief Investment Officer (CIO), replacing Ju Weimin.

  • Oregon-based Jensen Investment Management has announced that CIO Eric Schoenstein will retire effective March 1, 2025. Schoenstein joined the firm in 2002 and serves as Managing Director and as a member of the investment team. His executive and investment responsibilities will be assigned across the firm over a 12-month transition period.

  • UK local authority pension fund manager LGPS Central has appointed Richard Law-Deeks as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Law-Deeks, who is currently CEO of Royal Mail Pension Plan, will assume the role in the early summer, subject to regulatory approval.

  • Northern Trust has appointed Nick Gilbert as head of Global Fund Services, Europe, Middle East, and Africa. He joined Northern Trust in 2005 and is its Chief Strategy Officer for Asset Servicing. Gilbert replaces Clive Bellows, who was recently named as President of the firm’s EMEA business. His appointment is effective from April 1, 2024, subject to regulatory approval.

  • John Williamson has been appointed Chair of the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation Fund Board. Williamson, who takes up the role effective March 1, replaces Catherine Drayton, who will step down from the Board. He joined the Guardians Board in 2016 and has chaired its Employee Policy and Remuneration Committee since 2021.

  • Impact investment manager Sonen Capital has appointed Simone Balch as Chief Growth Officer. She joins from Cambridge Associates, where she was most recently Regional Director of business development for private clients and family offices. Balch has previously held roles at Matthews Asia, Diamond Dragon Advisors, Developing World Markets, and Goldman Sachs.

  • Financial advisory and wealth management firm Veris Wealth Partners has announced that Roraj Pradhananga, Managing Director of Investments, has assumed the role of co-CIO alongside Veris Partner and Co-Founder Michael Lent. The firm also announced that Senior Advisor Jane Swan has been named Head of Advisory Services. Both Pradhananga and Swan are Partners at the firm.

GPs

  • Canadian farmland investment manager AGinvest has promoted Ron Stevens to Vice President of Operations. Stevens, who has been with the firm for three years and was previously Director of Operations, has also been appointed to the Board of Directors.

  • Ares Management’s Special Opportunities strategy, currently a business within its Private Equity Group, will join the firm’s Credit Group and be named Opportunistic Credit. The unit will be led by Aaron Rosen and Craig Snyder, who serve as Co-Portfolio Managers of Special Opportunities.

  • Carlyle has appointed Jeff Currie as Chief Strategy Officer of Energy Pathways. He spent nearly three decades at Goldman Sachs where he was Global Head of Commodities Research. In his new role, Currie will report to Marcel van Poecke, Chairman of Energy.

  • Fengate Asset Management has named Jaime McKenna as President of Fengate Real Estate. McKenna, who joined the firm in 2019, was previously CIO of Minto Apartment REIT. The firm has also announced that Alison Kimmell has joined the firm as Managing Director, Development and Portfolio Management, Real Estate. She was most recently at Hines Toronto. And Colin Catherwood been named Managing Director, Investments, Real Estate. Before joining Fengate, he held senior investment leadership roles at Graywood, Welltower, and Brookfield Financial.

  • New York-based private equity buyout firm GenNx360 Capital Partners has announced that Jordan Buxton-Punch has been appointed Director of Business Development. He joins from start-up Live Chair where he was Director of Business Development. Previous roles include Senior Vice President, Investments at Nightingale Partners, an Investment Professional at Growth Opportunity Partners and Cyprium Investment Partners and an Investment Banker with Wells Fargo Securities and Greif & Co.

  • Philadelphia-headquartered Glenmede Investment Management has appointed Scott Kearney to the newly created role of Director of Global Distribution. He joins from Redwood Investments, where he was most recently Head of Distribution. Kearney previously held senior roles at Kennedy Capital Management and Macquarie Group.

  • JP Morgan Asset Management unit, JP Morgan Life Sciences Private Capital, has appointed David Epstein to its Healthcare Advisory Board. He was previously CEO of Seagen before closing its sale to Pfizer in December 2023. Epstein previously served as Executive Partner at Flagship Pioneering and as CEO of Novartis Pharmaceuticals.

  • European alternatives investment manager Klarphos has announced the appointment of Isabel Martín Hinojosa who will be responsible for Business Development for Southern Europe. Based in Madrid, she was most recently with Goldman Sachs Asset Management.

  • Los Angeles-based private equity firm Levine Leichtman Capital Partners has announced that Jarett Moyse has rejoined the firm as a Managing Director. Moyse was most recently a Principal with a multi-strategy private investment firm and he has also held investing roles with GI Partners and Pacific Creek Capital Partners. He began his career at UBS Investment Bank in San Francisco.

  • Oklahoma City-headquartered private equity firm Praesidian Capital has announced the addition of Tim Clark as an Operating Partner. He was most recently Managing Director of family office Hall Capital. Previous roles include Managing Director of Gridiron Capital and positions at Morgan Stanley, Bankers Trust, and Warburg Dillon Read.

  • Real estate-focused private investment firm Starwood Capital has announced that Jonathan Pollack will join the firm as its President, starting in 2025. Current President and Chief Operating Officer, Jeffrey Dishner will assume the role of Vice Chairman and Head of Strategy and Business Development once Pollack takes up the position. Pollack will join from Blackstone, where he has been Global Head of its Real Estate Credit unit (BREDS) since 2016.

  • Investment manager StratCap has announced the arrival of Katie Peterson as Vice President of National Accounts and Andre Hatibi as Vice President of Internal Sales. Peterson joins from Cantor Fitzgerald, where she served as Senior Vice President of National Accounts, while Hatibi was most recently Senior Vice President at Concept Capital Markets.

  • Investment manager Vanguard has announced that Tim Buckley will retire from his role as Chairman and CEO by year-end 2024. Vanguard’s Board of Directors has begun the process of searching for a replacement for Buckley, who has spent 33 years the firm, including more than six as CEO. Vanguard also announced that CIO Greg Davis has been appointed to the additional role of President of the firm, effective immediately.
