When we surveyed LPs in November 2021, economies were opening up from the COVID-19 pandemic, but geopolitical tensions were rising.
The outlook at the time of the survey was positive. An average of 90% of private capital LPs stated that performance in 2021 had met or exceeded expectations, compared with 72% of hedge fund investors. Most (86%) said that they will be investing the same or more in the coming year, despite concerns over competition for assets, valuations, and rising interest rates. Our findings include attitudes to ESG (environment, social, and governance) issues, and the impact an ESG policy has on performance.
