Preqin is proud to launch our second dedicated performance benchmark for India’s Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) in partnership with India Venture and Alternate Capital Association (IVCA), and under eligibility from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The benchmark comprises 293 schemes across AIF Category I, II, and III. Performance data for Category I and II funds are as of September 30, 2021, and Category III funds are as of July 31, 2022. The report utilizes data from GPs and provides transparency on performance metrics for investors and managers. We reveal key findings such as net IRRs and multiples, capital calls and distributions, and net cash flow. We also look at how Category I funds (early-stage funds) compare against external benchmarks like the MSCI India Total Return Index.
India’s AIF industry is experiencing rapid growth and attracting investor interest. With a total of more than 1,000 AIFs, the industry has grown quickly from INR 702bn ($10.3bn) in total commitment raised at the end of 2016 to INR 6945bn ($88.0bn) by June 2022 – increasing by almost 10 times.
If you are a GP interested in obtaining a custom performance benchmark to measure your scheme against other AIFs in India, please contact us by filling in your details here.
