How to use sustainability benchmarks
Based on reported company data, these benchmarks enable a reliable foundation for analysis and reporting.
To utilize asset-level carbon emission benchmarks, benchmark Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3, before applying filters to understand sustainability risk by region and industry.
How to access the benchmarks:
I. In the top navigation bar in Preqin Pro, go to the benchmarks menu and select ‘Sustainability Benchmarks’.
II. This will open a new window where you will be able to access the benchmarks for three metrics: scope 1 carbon emissions, scope 2 carbon emissions, and scope 3 carbon emissions.
III. You can also filter specific sectors, locations, and normalization for better comparisons across companies.
IV. By clicking on a sustainability benchmark, you will see a list of companies along with their reported data and additional details about their profiles.
V. When you select a specific company profile, you will be automatically redirected to the full company profile in the Preqin Pro platform.
How to access the sustainability performance data
To find this data, utilize the benchmarks as above or navigate to a company profile and click on the Sustainability tab.
If there is data available for the company, it will be displayed in a table. You can download the data for further analysis.

How to create sustainability custom benchmarks
Build your own custom benchmarks for carbon emissions across sectors and/or regions for more relevant insights. To create your own custom benchmark, simply select and compare companies across industry classifications for Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions.
I. In the main menu, select Benchmarks and select ‘Sustainability Benchmarks.’
II. A new window will open for you to access the benchmarks for the following three metrics: scope 1 carbon emissions, scope 2 carbon emissions, and scope 3 carbon emissions.
III. Click on a sustainability benchmark to display the companies along with their reported data and additional details. You can filter the list by location, sector and normalization. The benchmarks labelled "All industries" contain all companies with reported data on carbon emissions. There is one "All industries" benchmark for each carbon emission metric: Scope 1, 2, & 3. You can utilize these benchmarks to view a wider range of companies to filter and make your selections.
IV. Then select the companies you would like to include and save your selection as a new custom benchmark. You can find your saved custom benchmarks under the ‘Manage Your Benchmarks’ section.
