About

West Virginia Investment Management Board (WVIMB) is the principal investment management organization for the State of West Virginia. It is responsible for the investment of all of the State's defined benefit retirement plans, the Workers' Compensation, general revenue, special revenue, municipal bond money, certain local government money, state bond proceeds, and various other money held by the State. WVIMB was created in 1997 in legislation that combined the West Virginia Trust Fund, Inc. and the West Virginia Board of Investments. Its legislative mandate is to operate as an independent board with its full-time staff of financial professionals immune to changing political climates with the authority to develop, implement and maintain an efficient and modern system for the investment and management of the State's money. Importantly, the assets of the defined benefit pension plans have been placed, by statute, in an irrevocable trust available for no use or purpose other than for the benefit of those public employees and their beneficiaries.
