About

University of British Columbia Staff Pension Plan (SPP) is a defined benefit plan. It was created for non-faculty UBC staff members with fixed contributions where all benefits, including indexing, are subject to the plan’s ability to pay. Contributions to the plan are made by both the University and plan members. Pension benefits are integrated with the Canada Pension Plan benefit and include an annual cost of living adjustment. In July 2004, UBC Investment Management Trust (IMANT), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the university, took on the investment decisions for the pension fund. Before the creation of IMANT, investment responsibility for the SPP rested with the SPP Investment Committee.
