About

Established by law, KTRS is legally known as the Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Kentucky and became operational in 1940. KTRS is an actuarial reserve, joint-contributory system, whereby contributions of the members and employers and the earnings from KTRS investments are placed in reserve to pay for the System's annuity obligation. KTRS also includes the health insurance trust fund, established in 2010, which invests in the same general manner as the retirement annuity health trust.
