About

Kemper, previously known as Unitrin, is a US-based insurance holding company specializing in property and casualty insurance and life and health insurance products for individuals, families, and small businesses. Unitrin acquired the personal lines business of Kemper Insurance in 2002 before Kemper Insurance went into a runoff. In August 2011, Unitrin changed its name to Kemper and re-branded its largest property and casualty business as Kemper Preferred and its life and health insurance business as Kemper Home Service Companies, previously known as Kemper and Unitrin Career Agency Companies respectively. At this time, it planned to incorporate the Kemper name into its other business lines. Other business units include Unitrin Specialty, Unitrin Direct, Trinity Universal Insurance Company, United Insurance Company of America, and Reliable Life Insurance Company.
