About

Hillside Capital is a New York private industrial holding company that has investments in food ingredient companies and community newspapers. Venture capitalist John N. Irwin III, Hillside's managing director, is the grandson of Thomas Watson, the founder of IBM. Brookside International Inc. is the parent company and investment manager of Hillside Capital Inc. Mr. Irwin co-founded Hillside and built up its present business following the acquisition of two manufacturing companies in the late 70s, which were sold in the mid '80s. During the 1980s, Hillside expanded into other private equity investments including the food packaging and building products businesses. As Hillside successfully exited these investments during the 1990s, it continued to make substantial investments in private equity, including food flavorings, publishing and broadcasting ventures, as well as in the public markets. Today, Hillside makes both direct and indirect private equity investments, frequently in conjunction with its affiliates and co-investors.
