In Q3 2017, Ilmarinen, Finland’s second-largest private sector pension provider, announced that it would merge with Etera, the smaller of the two companies. The merger was officially carried out on January 1st 2018 when all assets and customers were transferred to Ilmarinen. Etera Mutual Pension Insurance Company was a private employment pension company administering the pension insurance of employees covered by the LEL Pensions Act (on July 2003, LEL Employment Pension Fund was changed to Etera). All employees in the construction, agricultural, forestry, and harbour fields are insured under LEL. LEL's pension system has been part of the Finnish employment pension system for forty years.
