About

Established by the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund Act, Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund is the sovereign wealth fund for the Canadian province of Alberta. By 1987, the resource royalty revenue was no longer given to the fund. The revenues are now generated from Alberta’s oil reserves. The revenues are now generated from Alberta’s oil reserves and the fund has the objective of producing income that supports government programs essential to Albertans such as health care and education. The fund is managed by Alberta Investment Management Corporation and the investment income earned by the fund, minus the amount retained to account for inflation, is transferred to Alberta's General Revenue Fund. This revenue is used to help finance improvements in areas such as health, education, and infrastructure.
