About

Investment by the Abu Dhabi government occured via four main organisations: the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), the Abu Dhabi Investment Council, the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) and the Abu Dhabi Investment Company (ADIC). It operated from its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, ADIC was a public limited liability company that specialises in providing investment and corporate finance advisory services. ADIC was founded in 1977 as the first investment company in the capital. Jointly owned by the Abu Dhabi Investment Council and the NBAD, the company was one of the leading Gulf based financial institutions. The principal activities of the company were those of investment and merchant banking including portfolio management and investment in venture capital. The Investment Division was formed in 1994 with the mission of strengthening the commercial and industrial infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates to diversify the country's income stream away from oil revenues.
