Founded in 1988, Windham Capital Management (Windham) was a Massachusetts-based research-driven hedge fund manager managed by Mark P. Kritzman. The firm utilized a centralized approach toward quantitative research, proprietary risk management systems, and artificial intelligence/machine learning models. Most of Windham’s portfolios were globally diversified and included exposures to global equities, global fixed income, commodities, currencies, and global real estate. The firm had been conducting research and writing about risk premia for decades. In early 2016, Richard Lindsey, Ph.D., and Andrew Weisman joined the firm from Janus Capital where it had founded, created, launched, and managed Alternative Risk Premia strategies for over 4 years. Its risk premia team launched the Windham Risk Premia strategy in October of 2016. Individually and collectively the members of the Windham Risk Premia team have been involved in conducting research, writing, and investing in risk premia since the early 2000s. As of Q3 of 2024, it was liquidated, and capital was returned to investors.
