Scout Capital was a long/short equity hedge fund manager based in New York. The firm was founded in 1999 by Adam Weiss, a former research analyst at Dan Loeb's Third Point and James Crichton, who has previous experience from Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and Zweig-Dimenna Associates. Scout Capital made long and short investments primarily in equities and equity-like securities, and occasionally in debt, and derivative securities of high quality businesses on the basis of its investment values. The firm had an additional office in Palo Alto. In early 2014 the firm announced they would be liquidating funds and returning capital to investors. The closure came as a result of decision by co-founder Adam Weiss to stop managing client capital.
