NWQ Investment Management was a hedge fund manager that was founded in April 1982 and began providing investment services that year. In August 2002, Nuveen Investments purchased the company and merged it into NWQ Investment Management Company. The investment objective was to generate superior risk-adjusted returns through a long/short evaluation of energy and energy-related public equity opportunities over a broad range of market environments. NWQ's approach to investing was based upon a bottom-up, fundamental approach with the aim of understanding individual companies as businesses rather than simply as stocks by conducting independent research. NWQ Investment Management Company was a subsidiary of Nuveen Investments, which is an operating division of TIAA Global Asset Management.
