Northwood Investors is a vertically-integrated real estate company that was founded by John Z. Kukral, the former President and CEO of Blackstone Real Estate Advisors. Northwood invests alongside institutional and private clients in a broad range of real estate and real estate-related investment opportunities globally, with nearly USD 10 billion of assets under management as of December 31, 2021. The firm invests in a range of real estate asset classes, including hotel, office, retail/mixed-use, residential, and industrial properties. The firm's investment strategies include single property acquisitions, multi-property portfolio acquisitions, property development and redevelopment, and operating companies. The firm focuses on long-term value creation and seeks to unlock unrealized value in its portfolio over time through transaction execution and a hands-on asset management approach. Northwood has raised approximately USD 10 billion through a combination of fundraising and recycling of prior commitments. Northwood has opened its fund on an annual basis since 2011 to accept new commitments that participate in new investments on a go-forward basis. - A first close was held in July 2008 on capital commitments of USD 1.25 billion - In 2011, a second close was held at USD 1 billion - An additional USD 500 million was raised in 2012 - In 2013, a USD 824 million fourth close was held - 12 months later, in 2014, a fifth close was reached at USD 318 million - In the 2015 close, an additional USD 200 million was raised - An additional USD 428 million was raised at the seventh close in 2016 - Northwood raised an additional USD 310 million in the eighth close in 2017 - Northwood raised an additional USD 334 million in the ninth close in 2018 - Northwood raised an additional USD 64 million in the tenth close in 2019 - Northwood raised an additional USD 106 million in its eleventh close in 2020 - Northwood raised an additional USD 360 million in its twelfth close in 2021 - Northwood is opening its fund for additional capital in 2022
