MacKay Shields (MacKay) is a fixed income-focused hedge fund manager based in New York that emphasizes managing income-oriented investment strategies. The firm was established in 1938 as an economic consulting firm by Gilbert MacKay. In 1984, MacKay became a wholly-owned autonomous subsidiary of New York Life Insurance Company, and it continues to operate and invest independently. In 2004, the firm initiated its first hedge fund investment. The firm comprises four investment teams: global fixed income, high yield, MacKay municipal managers, and convertibles. On April 24, 2017, it was announced that the Cornerstone Capital Management Holdings (Cornerstone) business would be joining MacKay, effective January 1, 2018. At that time, the Cornerstone systematic, fundamental, and passive investment teams began operating as autonomous investment units of MacKay Shields. Since July 1, 2017, MacKay has been managing the MacKay Cornerstone US Equity Market Neutral Fund LP. The investment teams of Cornerstone have now been integrated into the firm.
