M&G

M&G is the UK based asset management division of M&G plc, established in 1994. The firm manages fixed income, real estate and equity investments on behalf of Prudential, other insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, pension funds and retail investors. In fixed income, the firm offers a range of solutions across the public and private debt spectrums, including alternative credit products, leveraged, property and infrastructure finance as well as a complete range of pooled funds that are used to construct solutions for both defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) pension schemes. The firm’s private debt activities include providing loans to support small and mid-cap companies across the UK and Europe. The real estate arm invests in value added, core, debt and focus on property like apartment, commercial, condominium, hospitality, hotels, industrial. Loans typically consist of senior secured and unsecured loans and coincide with any existing bank debt. Within the hedge fund sector, M&G Investments employs long/short strategies in both equity and credit as well macro strategies. In August 2017, the firm combined M&G, the investment management business, with Prudential’s UK and European life insurance business to form M&G Prudential. In May 2022, M&G plc (“M&G”) completed the acquisition of Swiss-based responsAbility Investments AG (“responsAbility”), an impact investing firm, focused on private debt and private equity across emerging markets. The firm is wholly owned by M&G plc, which is a publicly held company whose shares trade on the London Stock Exchange under the corporate name of M&G plc. M&G was founded under its original name of ‘Municipal and General Securities’ in 1901 as the financial arm of a British engineering company.
