LJM Partners (LJM) was a CTA manager based in Chicago, Illinois that was founded in 1998 by Anthony J. Caine. LJM invested in volatility through dynamic, hedged portfolios of options against S&P 500 index futures and sought to build portfolios that were net short volatility in the aggregate. The firm operated on the principle that short volatility strategies, combined with an emphasis on proper risk management, provide an opportunity to earn positive, uncorrelated returns over the long term. LJM managed risk by means of a discretionary strategy, and employed strict macro economic, market, and real-time portfolio analysis. Due to high levels of market volatility, the firm shut down its operations in March 2018.
