Founded in the first quarter of 1993 by Andrew Shapiro, Lawndale Capital Management is an activist hedge fund manager based in California. The firm specializes in small and micro-cap companies, taking an active and constructive role in collaborating with boards and management teams to achieve strategic and operational objectives. Before establishing Lawndale Capital Management, Shapiro oversaw restructuring substantial portfolios of high-yield bonds, distressed equities, and risk arbitrage securities for First City Capital, a Belzberg family entity. Before his tenure at First City, he participated in various highly leveraged corporate acquisitions and recapitalizations at Manufacturers Hanover Trust and the Spectrum Group, a private equity firm.
