HPS Investment Partners is a US based fund manager that invests across various asset classes, including private equity, private debt, real estate, infrastructure, natural resources, and hedge funds. The firm employs a range of investment strategies, such as senior loans, preferred equity, mezzanine loans, real estate debt and equity, special situations, asset-based financing, and junior debt, targeting both large and small companies in diversified sectors worldwide. The real estate arm of HPS focuses on opportunities in commercial, multifamily, hospitality, and industrial properties throughout the U.S. and Europe. Additionally, the infrastructure and natural resources division invests in the energy and power sectors, emphasizing sustainable and responsible investing. Originally known as Highbridge Principal Strategies, HPS as a subsidiary of Highbridge Capital Management. In late 2004, J.P. Morgan Asset Management acquired a majority interest in Highbridge, completing the full acquisition in 2009. By October 2015, J.P. Morgan began exploring the sale of the private equity arm of Highbridge Principal Strategies to the management team. This management buyout was finalized in 2016, with J.P. Morgan retaining a minority stake. From March 2016, HPS operated as an independent entity, no longer a subsidiary of J.P. Morgan.
