GE Capital, Equity was a wholly owned subsidiary of General Electric. It provided equity capital to mid market sponsor and lending relationships and to companies with differentiated technology in GE's core industries. GE Ventures was the venture capital sub-division of GE Capital and predominantly invested in early to mid-stage software, healthcare, energy, advanced manufacturing, and financial and digital services companies. In June 2015 it was announced that GE Capital were selling off its European sponsor finance business to Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. Europe, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking. The deal was expected to be completed by the end of Q3. In September 2015 it was announced that the private equity group within GE Capital would be sold to Ardian.
