Black River Asset Management

Founded in 2003, Black River Asset Management (Black River) was an independently managed subsidiary of Cargill, an international producer and marketer of food, agricultural, financial, and industrial products and services. Black River was a global asset management company that provided investors with alternative investment opportunities. It sought attractive risk-adjusted returns, relying on experienced investment professionals, rigorous risk and investment management processes in addition to strong compliance and controls. During September 2015, Black River decided to spinout it's current investment activities into three new investment management firms. Argentum Creek Partners is a spinoff of Black River's emerging market credit business. Proterra Invsetment Partners is a spinoff of Black River's natural resources private equity business and Garda Capital Partners is a spinoff of Black Rivers, fixed income relative value business. Black River's primary industries of interest include food, sustainable agriculture, agriculture supply chain, traditional energy, natural resources, environmental sciences, infrastructure, transportation and logistics, and general industrial. Black River Asset Management, combined with its subsidiaries around the world, encompasses what was formerly Cargill's Global Capital Markets Division. In September 2015, it was announced that Cargill is looking to make the private equity arm a separate employee-owned firm. In January 2016, Black River Asset Management spun out its funds as part of Proterra Investment Partners. Proterra will manage all Black River funds.Read more ⏷
