Founded in 2011, Arafura Ventures is a Silicon Valley-based subsidiary of Parallel Capital that increases its exposure to US-based early stage technology companies. The firm looks to invest in US-based companies with a first mover advantage and a diverse customer base. Arafura Ventures provides early stage funding to companies operating in a wide range of industries, including software, technology and consumer products. In 2008, Parallel Capital launched its maiden early stage venture vehicle, Parallel Capital No. 1. The fund is registered under AusIndustry’s Early Stage Venture Capital Limited Partnership program (ESVCLP), thus allowing investors in the fund to be fully exempt from paying tax on dividends and capital gains resulting from future exits. Due to ESVCLP, the fund is not allowed to invest in companies operating directly in industries such as property development, banking, construction and insurance sectors.
