Absa Capital Private Equity, is a South African private equity firm. It is the private equity division of ABSA Capital, the investment banking arm of ABSA Group. Amalgamated Banks of South Africa (ABSA) was established in 1991 following the merger of UBS Holdings, Allied and Volkskas Groups and a number of interests in the Sage Group. ABSA Group is a publicly listed company on the JSE Limited and is a leading financial services group with a number of product offerings including banking, bank assurance and wealth management. Barclays Group is a majority stake holder in ABSA following an initiative in 2005 to expand its global product and commercial banking business in attractive global markets outside the United Kingdom. The Absa Capital Private Equity team focuses on taking substantial equity positions in medium to large sized companies that have experienced management teams. In December 2013, following Barclays Africa Group's sale of its 73.37% limited partner and related interests in Absa Capital Private Equity Fund I to a syndicate led by HarbourVest Partners, the firm spun off to become a new independent South African private equity fund manager, Rockwood Private Equity.Read more ⏷
