Based in California, US, and founded in 1994 by Jerry Yang and David Filo, Yahoo Inc. , formerly known as Verizon Media, is a global media and technology company. The company made an initial public offering in April 1996, by listing its stock on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol YHOO. In 2017, Verizon Communications, Inc.
merged web portal and online service provider AOL and internet company Yahoo Inc. into a new venture called Oath and later rebranded the company as Verizon Media in January 2019. In September 2021, private equity firm Apollo Global Management acquired a 90% majority stake in Verizon Media for USD 5 billion, with Verizon Communications, Inc. retaining the 10% shareholding.
Following the corporate carveout, Verizon Media was rebranded as Yahoo with Jim Lanzone as the company's CEO. Yahoo Inc. offers its media, technology, and business platforms to provide news and updates about sports, finance, technology, lifestyle, and automotive. The company also offers various business solutions including ad tech services, search engines, sports betting services, and content delivery network (CDN) technology.
