Founded in 2007 by Sean and Carlos Gomes, chaired by Simon Alston as CEO and based in Cape Town, South Africa, Wellness Warehouse (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of The Maia Group is a health retailer of supplements, health foods, natural beauty products, and eco-home solutions among others. Wellness warehouse sells products of its own brand along with those from Biona, Metagenics, Kapthura, Soaring Free, The Harvest Table, and Rude Health among others. Leaf Capital acquired a minority stake in Wellness Warehouse in 2016.
The company is also a part of the portfolio of private investment firms of Infinitus Holdings since 2016. As of 2021, the company staffs over 250 employees. The company’s product portfolio includes health supplements such as ayurvedic herbs, herbal remedies, homeopathic remedies, tissue salts, traditional Chinese medicines, and hemp for several purposes such as allergy, anti-aging, detoxification, digestion support, cold and flu, heart and circulatory support, and respiratory health among many others. Additionally, the company also offers first aid, sexual wellness, sports nutrition, and amino acids, antioxidants, and many others.
Wellness Warehouse also offers bakery, baking, beverage, and breakfast items along with herbs and spices, jams and spreads, and oil and dressing, along with beauty products such as accessories for bath and shower, face cleaners, feminine care, makeups, beauty supplies as well as men care. Exeo Capital, a private equity firm that invested in Maia Group in 2021, the holding company of Wellness Warehouse (Pty) Ltd plans to open 30 to 40 stores in South Africa over the next five years as well as the first international store in Mauritius and other African countries.
