Trikon was founded as Plasma & Materials Technologies in 1987 and was originally based in Chatsworth, California. The company went public in August 1995, raising USD 31. 6 million through its IPO.
In November 1996, it merged with Electrotech Ltd. , a UK-based firm, and was renamed Trikon Technologies, Inc. , relocating its headquarters to Newport, Wales. In 2002, it reincorporated in Delaware.
In December 2005, Aviza Technology, Inc. , a portfolio company of VantagePoint Capital Partners acquired Trikon Technologies, Inc. , and Trikon merged with Aviza Technology, Inc backed by VantagePoint (A PE Firm) in a reverse takeover, enabling Aviza to become publicly traded without a traditional IPO. Upon completion, Trikon Technologies, Inc.
was delisted. Trikon's product portfolio includes advanced equipment for chemical vapor deposition (CVD), physical vapor deposition (PVD), and plasma etching. The firm's systems include the Sigma fxP™ and Planar fxP™ for PVD, and the Omega fxP™ for plasma etching. These tools are utilized in semiconductor manufacturing processes such as inter-metal dielectric deposition, metalization, and etching of thin films.
