Founded in 2019 and based in Breda, Netherlands, The Protein Brewery develops fungi-based protein by using only a fraction of available land and water using a biotic production process to replace animal-based protein products. In September 2025, The Protein Brewery raised EUR 30 million amount in Series B funding from new investors BOM Brabant Ventures and Invest-NL. Returning investor Novo Holdings and Unovis Asset Management, Madeli and other unspecified investors also participated in the round. The company will use the funding to reach commercial scale for its fungi-based protein ingredient and prepare for a U.
S. launch. The Protein Brewery generates revenue by licensing its proprietary fermentation technology and selling Fermotein mycoprotein ingredients to food manufacturers, enabling sustainable protein solutions for plant-based products, snacks, and alternative dairy applications.
