Founded in 1972 and based in Indiana, US, The Braun Corporation, doing business as BraunAbility, engages in the production and fabrication of transportation options for the wheelchair community. Mr. Ralph Braun, the founder of the company, was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy and unable to walk by the age of 15. In 1963, he began building his motorized wheelchairs, which he called Tri-Wheelers, in his parents’ garage under the name Save-A-Step Manufacturing Company, then the company was incorporated as The Braun Corporation in 1972.
The BraunAbility brand was introduced as the name of the consumer mobility products in 2008. Patricia Industries, a portfolio company of Investor AB, acquired the company in September 2015. BraunAbility holds certifications for quality and safety in both the manufacturing, automotive and mobility industries, including accreditation with the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA), ISO and OEM manufacturers. BraunAbility offers mobility solutions to the wheelchair community by manufacturing wheelchair-accessible van conversions and wheelchair lifts for both personal use and commercial applications.
In 2020, the company generated USD 567 million in revenue.
