Based in Madrid, Spain, and founded in 1993 by Hector Ara, Suanfarma, S. A. is a life sciences company. In October 2015, ProA Capital acquired a majority stake in the company for EUR 25 million, supporting its growth both organically and through further acquisitions.
The firm has expanded and increased the industrial and development capacity of the business by acquiring companies in Spain, Portugal, Colombia, and Italy. Intermediate Capital Group later acquired a majority stake in Suanfarma, S. A. in June 2018 from ProA Capital, which retained a minority stake in the company.
In September 2021, ArchiMed acquired an 80% majority stake in the company from ProA Capital and Intermediate Capital Group for approximately EUR 500 million. As of December 2021, the firm is led by its CEO, Francisco Fernandez. Suanfarma, S. A.
develops, manufactures, and distributes active pharmaceutical ingredients, raw materials, generic medicines, and finished dosage forms used by the pharmaceutical, biotechnological, veterinary, nutritional, and cosmetic industries. In addition, the company serves as a Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), assisting clients with the commercialization of generic and unique APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient). The acquisition by Archimed will support Suanfarma, S. A’s product portfolio expansion and organic growth.
