About

Based in Gauteng, South Africa, and founded in 2012 by co-founders Stacey Brewer and Ryan Harrison, Spark Schools providers of a personalized learning approach, integrating direct classroom instruction with technology-based education across primary and high school levels.  In February 2021, Spark Schools raised USD 16. 9 million in series C funding led by investor Creadev, with participation from another investor Finnfund and Imaginable Futures. SPARK Schools offers a comprehensive education model that includes primary and high school education.

The institution utilizes a two-phase learning model. For Grades R to 3, it employs a lab rotation model that combines traditional teacher-directed instruction with technology-enhanced learning. Students engage in one-on-one instruction, small group activities, or whole-class lessons depending on their needs. For Grades 4 to 7, SPARK Schools implements the Flex Model, allowing students to progress through a personalized schedule, thereby fostering autonomy and critical thinking skills.

The curriculum includes subjects like literacy, mathematics, natural science, social science, business studies, language, and computer applications. The school also offers isiZulu and isiXhosa as additional languages. Additionally, the organization offers both traditional face-to-face instruction and tech-enabled education, with a focus on skills development, inquiry, and independent study. The company generates revenue through tuition fees, which cost R33,960 for primary school and R43,920 for high school, with various fee structures, including discounts for early payment and siblings.

The company will use the February 2021 funding to expand primary and secondary schools across Africa.
