Based in California, US, and founded in 2012 by its CTO Ram Gurumoorthy, and A. K. Pradeep, StimScience operates as a developer and provider of electronic headbands intended to enhance the sleep quality of the wearer. As of June 2022, the company is being led by its Chief Executive Officer, Aaron Bromberg.

StimScience offers a wearable, electronic headband called Somnee, designed to improve the wearer’s sleep quality, and duration while minimizing the time taken to fall asleep. The company’s product utilizes non-invasive, closed-loop transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) technique to adjust and enhance the brain’s natural sleep patterns, leading to better sleep and reduced stress. The users have two options for wearing Somnee: either during a 15-minute session of stimulation before bed or while sleeping all night (in this case the device tracks the sleep data and uses it to personalize and enhance the stim sessions). Additionally, the firm provides a mobile application (compatible with iOS and Android devices) to help users better control the device.

StimScience generates its revenue by pricing Somnee at USD 299 (pack of 2- USD 598). In June 2025, Somnee raised USD 10 million in seed funding led by Khosla Ventures, with participation from LEAD, Metalab Ventures, Nelstone Ventures, RDV Corporation, Seaside Ventures, and Time Ventures. Other unspecified investors also participated in the round. The company plans to utilize the June 2025 funding to development of second-generation smart sleep headband and artificial intelligence operating system.
