Based in Florida, US, SaftPay Inc. also known as SafetyPay, and founded in 2007 by co-founders Manuel Montero and Barbara Bibas. The company acts as an international secure payment facilitator and clearinghouse, with online payment solutions for online shoppers, online merchants, and banks. As of 2021, the company has a presence in 16 countries, with additional coverage in Europe.
In August 2021, Paysafe bought the online payment company SafetyPay for USD 441 million. The company's software allows customers to make safe online purchases from merchants all over the globe and pay directly through a local bank account in the currency of their choosing, allowing them to make secure payments with ease. The company generates revenue by providing a secure e-payment mechanism that allows cash sales through a number of channels, including e-commerce and call centers. Upon the completion of the acquisition in August 2021, the SafetyPay team will join Paysafe's growing eCash and online banking solutions team.
Gustavo Ruiz Moya, the CEO of SafetyPay, will become the CEO of eCash for Latin America and the Global Head of Open Banking.
