Based in London, UK, and founded in 1906, Rolls-Royce plc operates as a manufacturer of aero engines. The company, under its civil aerospace segment, manufactures aero engines for large commercial aircraft, regional jets, and business aviation markets, as well as works on Airbus and Boeing under its Power of Trent subdivision. The other business segment of the company includes the defense segment, where it supplies military transport, patrol aircraft, and naval power solution as well as nuclear propulsion for UK Royal Navy submarines, the power systems segment, where the firm under its brand MTU, provides integrated solutions for onsite power and propulsion solutions for ships and heavy land vehicles, and electrical segment, where it offers all-electric and hybrid-electric power and propulsion system with net zero transition for advanced air mobility market. Rolls Royce is also working on the development of a micro space reactor that could be used by astronauts to power communications and life support on the Moon, in collaboration with the University of Oxford, University of Bangor, University of Brighton, University of Sheffield, and Nuclear AMRC. The company will use the March 2026 funding to advance development and ground testing of the UltraFan 30 demonstrator and mature ultra-high bypass ratio engine technologies.
