Founded in 2015 and based in Bogotá, Colombia, Rappi S. A. S (Rappi) is a consumer technology company that provides online delivery services. The company has operations in Columbia, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador, and Costa Rica and more than 250 cities in Latin America as of mid-2021.
The firm was founded by Felipe Villamarin, Sebastian Mejia, and Simon Borrero. In July 2021, Rappi raised over USD 500 million in series F funding led by returning investors T. Rowe Price, with participation from returning investors Andreessen Horowitz, DST Global, Sequoia Capital, Softbank Capital, and Y Combinator. Rappi operates an online marketplace for customers to buy products and services and receive home delivery across multiple categories, like medical, health, grocery, restaurants, pharmacies, beverages, and professional services, among others.
In addition, the application has a virtual wallet, RappiPay, where users can make peer-to-peer transfers and payments. The company also offers a cash withdrawal feature, allowing users to pay with credit cards and then receive cash from one of Rappi’s delivery agents. The company plans to strengthen the application's service offering such as through deliveries in minutes supported by small supply centers, and also plans to continue to expand its financial services.
