As of 2021, Michael O'Neill is the CEO of the company, and it serves clients in the US. The company has in-basin plants in South Texas, West Texas, and Oklahoma, as well as strategic regional plant locations in Arizona and Nebraska, and in October 2019, Southlake Equity Group and Enerstream Capital Partners acquired Preferred Sands, LLC's Arizona tier-one sand mining operations. In July 2014, KKR acquired a minority stake in Preferred Sands, LLC for USD 680 million through a restructuring deal.
The company's proppant products and services include polyurethane resin-coated proppants, dust suppression solutions, and proppant transportation. Preferred Sands, LLC also offers proppant distribution technology such as Preferred Resins, which is designed to operate in specific reservoir conditions to improve raw sand and reduce proppant flowback; DustPro, which is developed to minimize dust exposure; and FloPro, which improves sand suspension and transport with slickwater fluids.
