Photoncycle AS develops technology and business concepts to enable sustainable solutions for the energy system, particularly in regions with significant seasonal variation in photovoltaic (PV) generation and demand. Photoncycles use an electrolizer to store surplus electricity from rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems and the grid for long-term storage systems. This system converts green hydrogen produced from water and electricity into a solid state, offering a gravimetric energy density of 3. 5 kWh/kg—higher than traditional lithium-ion batteries.
The storage system enables users to capitalize on seasonal fluctuations in energy prices, importing electricity when prices are low and exporting it when prices are high. The company plans to use the March 2026 funding to expedite its commercial growth in Denmark and the Netherlands.
