PhaBuilder

Established in 2021 and based in Beijing, China, PhaBullder is a material company that focuses on the synthetic biology field. It has two PHA plants under construction and has more than 30 patented technologies. The annual output under construction in China reached more than 100,00 tons. In August 2022, it has a strategic collaboration with Tongjieliang.

In February 2023, PhaBuilder raised CNY 359 million in series A funding led by new investor CNPC Kunlun Capital. The company's founder is Professor Chen Guoqiang, who worked for 15 years in the Synthetic and Systems Biology Center of Tsinghua University as the director.   The company's R&D product lines can be divided into categories including degradable materials, chemical intermediates, pharmaceutical intermediates, and industrial enzymes. The products can be applied in the fields of medical, pharmaceutical, makeup, beauty, fiber, textile, etc.

As of January 2022, the company has completed the production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), based on the technology platform of modified halophilic-producing strains, which is a degradable new biomaterial.   The company plans to establish a PHA international R&D center in Beijing, build up 3-5 large-scale production bases throughout China within five years, and complete intelligent demonstration production lines of thousands of tons. Moreover, the company will establish an intelligence production plant with an annual output of 10,000 tons of PHA and high-value compounds.
