Based in Brussels, Belgium, and founded in 2020 by co-founders Maxime Snick, Jonas Engels, and Nicolas Quintin, Octave Energy offers second-life batteries from electric vehicles to build state-of-the-art battery energy storage systems (BESS). The product range, tailored for small and medium enterprises and industrial sites, facilitates the efficient storage of energy generated from solar panels and wind turbines. In June 2022, Octave Energy raised EUR 2 million in seed funding, co-led by investors SPDG, Périer-D'Ieteren, and U2P Group, with participation from other investors Horizon Europe, Innoviris, Simplicity, and imec. istart.

Octave Energy's primary product line includes indoor battery cabinets equipped with bidirectional inverters. These cabinets provide a reliable and safe solution for energy storage, ensuring efficient energy use while helping reduce carbon emissions and lower electricity costs. The company offers additional services such as monitoring, capacity guarantees, and optimal control to enhance the overall system's performance. In addition, the firm’s data-driven energy management system allows clients to optimise self-consumption, reduce peak consumption, engage in market arbitrage, balance loads effectively, and contribute to grid stability.

By combining these applications, Octave Energy achieves value stacking and enhances battery value for clients. Their proprietary Battery Cloud platform monitors every measurement from individual battery cells in real time, amassing over a million data points per battery system daily. This data-driven approach allows for early anomaly detection and continuous optimisation, resulting in superior system performance and increased safety. The company plans to use the June 2022 funding to accelerate R&D efforts and the commercialization of its circular battery solutions.
