Founded in 1884 BY John H. Patterson, and based in Georgia, US, NCR Corporation, a. k. a NCR is a software, hardware and services-led enterprise provider in the financial, retail, hospitality, telecommunications, and technology industries.
Initially, the company was known as National Cash Register, a manufacturer of electronic cash registers and in 1974 it was renamed NCR Corporation. In 2003, the company acquired Kinetics, a provider of self-service check-in, and spun off Teradata in 2007. Some other acquisitions by the company include NetKey, Retalix, Digital Insight Corporation, and JetPay. In December 2015, Blackstone Group invested USD 820 million in the company for a minority stake.
NCR Corporation trades on the NYSE under the ticker symbol NCR. In August 2021, NCR Corporation, a portfolio company of Warburg Pincus, agreed to acquire Moon Inc. As of 2021, the company is led by its CEO Mike Hayford. NCR's products include digital-first software and services for banking, retailers, and restaurants, as well as payments processing, multi-vendor connected device services, automated teller machines (ATMs), point of sale (POS) terminals, and self-service kiosks.
The company also resells third-party networking products and provides related service offerings to the telecommunications and technology sectors. Additionally, the company's banking solutions include managed services and ATM-as-a-Service, and its payments solutions also include e-commerce services, mobile point of sale, and payment business portal.
