Based in New South Wales, Australia, and founded in 2013 by CEO and co-founder Marcus Dawe, Mineral Carbonation International Pty Limited, d. b. a. MCi Carbon is an environmental services company that builds decarbonization plants to minimize CO2 emissions and transforms them into solid materials for use in industrial products for the circular economy.
The company has developed and constructed three generations of Carbon Plants, including the Global Reference Pilot Plant located in Newcastle, Australia. In March 2023, MCi Carbon raised USD 5 million in venture funding from Mizuho Bank. MCi Carbon utilizes its multi-process carbon platform for carbon capturing and utilization to accelerate mineral carbonation, a natural earth process that transforms emissions into solid materials. The company produces low-carbon materials, such as cement/concrete and plasterboard products from CO2 emissions for use in many industrial applications and products, enabling a range of circular economy value chain linkages.
MCi Carbon plans to use its proceeds from March 2023 funding to establish a market path in Japan and in meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
