Founded in 1967 and based in Changwon-si, South Korea, K Shipbuilding, formerly known as STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co. , LTD, operates as a shipbuilding company that manufactures tankers, container ships, and bulk carriers. In April 2014, the company was delisted due to deteriorating company profitability. In November 2020, KHI Investment and UAMCO bid to acquire a minority stake in STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co.
, LTD. for KRW 200 billion. In January 2021, KHI Investment and UAMCO agreed to fully acquire STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co. , LTD from NH Bank, Woori Bank, KDB Bank, and Export-Import Bank of Korea for approximately KRW 250 billion in a public to private transaction.
Following the completion, STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co. , LTD. was rebranded to K Shipbuilding. The acquisition helps STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co.
, LTD to stabilize its financial structure and liquidity. The funding also helps the company to enhance its competitiveness in the global mid-size shipyard market.
