The company was formed by the acquisition of U&R Tax Depot by Franchise Group, Inc, and in February 2021, NextPoint Acquisition Corp. , a SPAC backed by individual investors, agreed to acquire Liberty Tax from Franchise Group, Inc.

Liberty Tax provides services such as tax planning, personal income tax, and business tax preparation for individuals and small businesses; and tax-related financial products such as prepaid debit cards and refund transfer products. The company’s services also include privacyarmor (security for finances, and credit cards against theft and abuse), audit armor (audit defense services), debt relief, debt resolution, and roadside assistance for cars. After the acquisition, NextPoint plans to combine the financial products and services of Liberty Tax with LoanMe, another financial company that NextPoint agreed to acquire.
