Founded in 1928 by Sylvain Charlois and based in France, Groupe Charlois is the result of the merger of traditional barrel makers Charlois and Saury, which provides oak cooperage for fine wines and spirits. In February 2015, Intermediate Capital Group acquired a 31% minority stake in Groupe Charlois from Ardian. The company’s core business revolves around the sustainable selection and processing of oak trees, along with forestry practices. The firm also manufactures and naturally matures wooden staves, crucial components in wine and spirit barrels.
Groupe Charlois has branched out into various oak-related ventures, including Oak Collection, which manages forest properties and creates unique wooden structures. This division even delves into cosmetics and hospitality experiences. Oak Generation fosters art, culture, and heritage preservation in their founding village. Finally, OAK Nation unites complementary businesses within the forestry, oak, and wine industries.
This division encompasses activities like sawmilling, barrel making, and the production of specialized oak products for winemaking. Additionally, OAK Nation offers services in transport, logistics, and engineering. It further specializes in the agri-food sector and has a dedicated research and innovation department.
